Scent Workshop

Join Rubia Homa for an afternoon workshop on Scent Culture in Islam.  Referencing Islamic Texts and exploring Islamic Scent Culture from the Islamic Golden Age until present time. Attendees will participate in an exercise of smelling different materials and understanding each scent material profile as a perfumer does in their fragrance making practice. Rubia will demonstrate  and share some of the rituals and application behind the materials.

About the instructor: Rubia Homa is a perfumer and founder of HURO Fragrances. Her journey as a perfumer, olfactory artist and educator began in 2016, attending her first fragrance making class at the Institute for Art and Olfaction (IAO) in Los Angeles.  In 2018, as part of the Perfume Design Challenge Series at the IAO, she submitted her first fragrance inspired by the Possessions at Loudun and later highlighted at the Art and Olfaction Biennial Scent Fair. Rubia’s journey as a perfumer kickstarted in 2019 when she started creating her own fragrances, shared with her close circle and then, formally released in 2025 under her brand HURO.

Rubia was appointed Board Member at the IAO from 2020 to 2023 where she participated in program development and was a judge for the yearly Art and Olfaction awards. She has also collaborated on a series of projects such as working with the Qatar Art Institute for Culture delivering fragrance making workshops along with taking part as a panel speaker discussing topics such as Sustainability in the Fragrance Industry and Scent Culture in Islam.
