Colibrí is the word for hummingbird in Spanish among other languages. A small but extraordinary visitor, the colibrí moves from flower to flower with curiosity and precision. At Studios Colibrí, the name reflects our belief that creativity flourishes through movement between different art forms, material studies, and ways of seeing. Like the colibrí gathering nectar, we invite artists and learners to observe deeply, experience connection, and discover the synergy that emerges across a myriad of practices.
Studios Colibrí is the shared creative home of Alejandro Diaz-Perera and Cara Megan Lewis. Working individually and collaboratively across painting, drawing, photography, textiles, and socially engaged practices, our work explores memory, place, and the rituals that connect people to one another and to the landscapes they inhabit.
The studio grew out of a desire to create the kind of space we were always seeking ourselves. Studios Colibrí is an atelier for learning, making, and slow observation. Drawing from our individual artistic practices and our years of teaching and community building, we offer workshops and gatherings that invite participants to develop technical skills while cultivating curiosity, creativity, and a deeper relationship with the world.
