Colibrí the Spanish word for hummingbird, traces its origins to the Taíno language of the Caribbean.
A small but extraordinary visitor, the colibrí moves from flower to flower with curiosity and precision. The name reflects our belief that creativity flourishes through movement between different art forms and ways of seeing. Like the colibrí gathering nectar, we invite artists and learners to observe deeply and discover the synergy that emerges across a myriad of practices.
Studios Colibrí grew out of a desire to create the kind of space we were always seeking ourselves: a working studio where artists, students, and curious people could come together to learn, make, experiment, and exchange ideas.
The studio is the shared workspace of artists Alejandro Diaz-Perera and Cara Megan Lewis, whose practices span painting, drawing, photography, textiles, and socially engaged work. Alongside our own practices, we open the studio for classes, workshops, material studies, and gatherings led by ourselves and invited artists.
We think of Colibrí as an atelier for learning, making, and slow observation: a place to develop technical skill, encounter unfamiliar materials and ideas, and spend time looking closely at the world.
